Characterizing the Irrigation System
If your farm has multiple irrigation systems, you can manage them centrally in Wisecrop.
Create an Irrigation System
Step 1. Add a New Irrigation System
Each irrigation system consists of an Irrigation Controller and its respective Irrigation Sectors.
To add a new Irrigation System, go to the Settings menu and click on Irrigation System.
Then enter the Irrigation Systems section at the top of the page and click the Add New button at the bottom left of the table.
Step 2. Configure the Irrigation System
In the form, assign a name to this irrigation system (usually the name of the Irrigation Controller), configure the predefined parameters, and indicate whether the fertigation installed works in series or parallel.
Series irrigation means the tank contents are added to the irrigation one at a time — the tanks are activated sequentially, like in a queue.
Parallel irrigation means more than one tank is activated at the same time, mixing the tank contents in the irrigation piping.
When finished, click Save.
Associate Sectors with the Irrigation System
Now that you have configured a new Irrigation System, you need to associate the respective Irrigation Sectors. Follow these steps:
Step 1. Create the Irrigation Sector
Go to the Settings menu and click on Irrigation System. Then enter the Sectors section at the top of the page and click Add New at the bottom left of the table.
Step 2. Configure the Irrigation Sector
In the form, assign a name to the sector and choose the irrigation type so that the rest of the form becomes available. Fill out all fields you can, since the more data Wisecrop has, the better and more accurate results it can provide.
The most important fields to fill are:
Subparcels included in the sector: Indicate which subparcels are irrigated by this sector.
If the sector irrigates only part of a subparcel, click Advanced Options and fill in the irrigated area of each selected subparcel as accurately as possible.
Irrigation Parameters: Start by filling in the six marked fields related to the planting spacing of the plants irrigated by this sector.
At the end, click the orange button Automatic calculation of the number of plants, emitters, and irrigated area.
Verify if the fields Number of Plants, Number of Emitters in the Sector, and Irrigated Area make sense. If so, check the three confirmation boxes below each field.
If something doesn’t seem right, you can edit the values directly and then check the confirmation boxes.
- System Efficiency: No irrigation system is 100% efficient; there are always losses. For maximum precision, manually calculate the efficiency of this irrigation sector.
After the pressure in the pipe has stabilized, place a water meter on one of the outlets. Then compare the measured quantity with the formula: Theoretical Flow=Flow per hour of the sector / 6
The Flow per hour of the sector should be marked on the irrigation piping. If you don’t know or can’t find it, contact your irrigation installer.
System Efficiency should then be:
Efficiency= Theoretical Flow /Measured Quantity ×100
- Maximum Flow per Emitter: Fill in the flow rate indicated on the piping. If unknown, contact your installer.
Step 3. Associate Remote Control and Irrigation Sensors
If you have an irrigation controller compatible with remote control, or if you have flow meters or soil moisture sensors installed on your Farm, contact us for help with the Irrigation Automation settings.
Finally, click Save to complete the configuration of this Irrigation Sector.
Tip:
If you have more sectors to configure, you can use the Save and Duplicate button.
By clicking this button, a new configuration window opens already pre-filled with the previous data so you don’t have to repeat everything.
